New Job

I'm giving a little update to my last post about my new career change. As of October 17th I'll be working for GMAC mortgage here in St. Cloud. I'm really excited about the position and look forward to making peoples home ownership dream a reality.

This weekend I'm off to the cities for my step-brother Jono and his fiancée Sara's wedding. I'm really looking forward to seeing family and I'll get some pics and updates when I get back.

I'm old........

I haven't updated for a long time so here goes..........  I turned 26 last week and I'm officially feeling older. I didn't even go out on my birthday night. Oh well, the night before was great. The family came up and we went out to dinner after checking out my new place. Oh yea, I moved since I last posted here. I'll throw some pics up on here. It's in a great location right on the river close to downtown but it feels like I'm way up north. I did some renovation on the apartment that involved taking out one of the bedrooms making it now a 1 bedroom apartment. Now I'm almost finished furnishing it and starting to relax. We have a little bonfire pit outside and the neighbors are all fun and like to have fun so we get along great. It's kind of like a little community right here on the river. My last day working at US bank will be this Wednesday. I'm going to leave you all in suspense on which company I'm heading to. That'll give you a reason to check my page out again. So until next time enjoy the pictures and I'll try to update by the end of the week.

Car show

This past weekend was the Bad Boyz Car show in downtown St. Cloud. The weather was hawt and nasty but we toughed it out and were out all day in it. It was fun to hang out with the Downtown Council crew and check out all the cool cars. That night I went out with friends downtown, first Rhea and I started off at Mexican Village with some margaritas then met up with Jeny and Mandi and went to the Carpet for some Trippin Billies (good DMB cover band) and met up with more and more friends. It was quite the time and I felt it on Sunday. After Beth and I went to lunch Sunday I was a pile for a while, I think it was just that I got too much sun the day before. Well on to the grind of the week.............

Working and visiting the fam

Again it’s been a while since I posted. There’s really nothing too exciting to post about with me but I’ll try. The 4th weekend was fun, got to hang out with friends and go to my friend Aaron’s annual 4th bonfire party which was a blast as usual. The weather has been awesome lately and I try to get outside every chance I get.

I’ve been working a lot, well a lot for me I guess. The bank is going a little better, I'm still restless being in such a corporate environment but I'm getting a little more used to it. I got asked to be on a US Bank committee for the United Way which will be nice for me to do something a little different there and more tailored to my degree. So I'm just grinding away there and hopefully something will come along that I can really get into and have fun with.

This past week some of the fam was in town from Seattle and just like last time I posted their visit spawned this post My aunt Louise came in last weekend and then my cousin Ginelle came in town for business with her new baby Thomas. I went down for dinner on Saturday and got to meet him and see them as well as my mom and dad, grandma and Meredith. My dad pulled a fast one on me by cooking lamb and I thinking it was beef until I commented on how tender it was for how well done. Well now I'm a fan of lamb and look forward to trying it in some different dishes.

Its been a while........

Well I've got a new job since I last posted. I'm working at US Bank in St. Cloud at their downtown location. It's going well so far, I wish I was making more $$ but that'll come with time. I'm really debating whether or not to move back to the Twin Cities from St. Cloud.

The main disc golf course just opened up here in town and I've been loving that, its really nice to get out and play again even though the weather has been horrible. Not too much else is new, just been hanging out with friends as much as I can, going to bonfires whenever possible and trying to fit in running here and there.

I'll be going to a Volkswagen car show this weekend down in Minneapolis, I kind of miss working on cars like I did back in high school. Once I get a good paying job and a house to store all my tools that are in storage I'll be able to get back into doing that again.

This one's for Aunt Louise

After having a visit with my Aunt from Seattle and her asking about me updating my space I figure it's time to throw some info up. Nothing too exciting has been going on with me lately. Still looking for that great opportunity and having had to turn down a couple that weren't exactly what I was looking for. So in the meantime I've decided to take up a part time position working at a Downtown Restaurant called the Mexican Village. I'm working as many hours as I can there right now but when I find a job I’ll cut that down and still try to make some extra cash serving a couple nights a week. So other than that nothing too new is going on with me. Oh, well I did run the Earth Day 5k race which went ok but did give me a lot of room for improvement for next year.

More meetings and Visiting old friends

This Wednesday I was down at the U of M for a meeting with the Diabetes Institute. It was an informational meeting to get some general info on the non profit career field. Dawn Fish, the Director of Development, was the woman I met with and she was more than helpful. Hopefully all of these meetings that I've been going to will pay off soon. I'm getting anxious for a job.

I did receive a job offer to work for the Central Minnesota Boy Scout Council. Sounds worse than it is, I wouldn't be trekking into the woods with Boy Scouts, it would have been a legitimate office job but I would have had to live in Little Falls which for someone my age would be hard since there is literally no social life up there. So it was weird to have to turn down a job but something might come of it in the future and it was good to know that someone wanted to hire me.

Also on Wednesday I met some old high school friends at Bennigans in St. Louis Park. I literally haven't seen some of these people in four years. It was great to see what everyone was up to and catch up on the local gossip. Things like that really make you feel old when you hear about people getting married and buying houses, seems like it was yesterday we were immature high school kids. After four hours there it was time to head back up to St. Cloud, I was bushed and had to stop and get some food to stay awake. Side note, my new car is great on trips like that; I think I might have to take it on a road trip this summer.

Nothing else really new, trying to stay busy. I met with the Sales tax renewal committee which I'm a part of on Thursday. We're trying to get some legislation passed after the people of the St. Cloud area voted for an additional sales tax. It's really interesting working with the community leaders and former senators, who knows I might have to look into politics down the road but for now I just need a job.

I'm sure I'll update after St. Patty's Day since it sounds like that's going to be quite the night.

New Car!!

After finding out my old car was on its last leg I've been researching cars to see what was out there. I was finally set on getting a Volkswagen Jetta and after scouring the internet found one that I liked right here in St. Cloud. So I went in, did a little haggling and ended up buying a new car as a Valentine’s present to me:)  It’s a 2003 Jetta in silver with 35,000 miles on it. It’s so nice to have a car that has power windows and locks and some class. So now I have a new car checked off my to do list.

So my next most important task is to find a job. I’ve been checking out things and networking, I’ve done the whole Monster.com and Career Builder thing and haven’t had any really good leads but I had a really promising informational interview last week and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll be able to get something out of the meeting. I’m also going to a job fair on Friday in Minneapolis so we’ll see how things go.

Great Night in Minneapolis

Last night I got the pleasure of being a part of a great event. My aunt, Carol Olson passed away from Diabetes about 10 years ago and so last night in her memory the Carol Olson Memorial Fund at the Diabetes Institute at the University of Minnesota was celebrated. The night consisted of some great speakers and doctors explaining what their doing at the institute. Of course I was lost in the explanation about the third powerpoint slide in but I think I got the core of what they're doing there and it's very amazing. My dad and Meredith along with some other members of the family jumpstarted the memorial and what an amazing thing it is. You can check it all out HERE

As always it's great to see relatives from far away. My aunt and uncle from Seattle were in town for the event and we were able to hang out for the night. During one of the powerpoint presentations there were these pictures of human pancreases in what looked like a deep fryer and my uncle of course had to point out that they looked just like the chicken on a stick we were eating. So I had to take a little break from eating after that. And it's always great to see my grandma, I have such a great time with her.

One funny thing is that I had to rent a car to drive down there since mine is on its way out. So here I am driving this big Impala and as I'm getting into downtown I happen to notice that the radio is getting quieter as I'm slowing down. I guess that's a feature, pretty cool I might add, and so I played with that by flooring it and slowing down really fast. Word of advice: never buy a rental car!

Finding a job....

Well I just graduated from St. Cloud State University and am now on the hunt for my first real job. That sure sounds weird, I never thought I'd get out of that place. For now I'm thinking I'll stay up in St. Cloud and find a job and hopefully buy a house but who knows, if I find something in the Twin Cities maybe I'll end up there. This whole job search thing is really a job in itself, lots of time and energy and sometimes seems like its going nowhere. If you know anyone that has a job opening please let me know, I'm interested in exploring all options.
